You gotta hate something
Well, well, well. The Pisgah Gathering was everything it needed to be. I traveled with Josh the Wonderboy in Dicky’s Dirty Little Box Saturday morning. When we got to the Cove Creek group campsite I was suprised by the number of cars that were there. The gathering in October was more low key, but that may have had something to do with the temperatures we had to endure(20+degrees). We showed up at around 10:00 and by 10:30 we had met two strangers(Drew and Jonathan) that were ready to go into the woods with us. I got to ride Farlow Gap for the first time ever. It is an incredible descent I have avoided for years due to the remoteness of the trailhead. It was also one of the best downhills I have ever ridden in Pisgah. I actually took my camera on this ride, but I didn’t check my batteries before I left so I only got one photo, crap. We rode a couple other loops in the area before heading back to camp. After 28 miles we parted ways with the former strangers. I realized it was too early to get into the beers so I talked The Wonderboy into doing another seven mile loop behind the fish hatchery.
Here is The Wonderboy descending Farlow with his mad skills and an extremely developed sense of fashion.
Upon our return we enjoyed some of the usual crappy camping food before breaking out the liquid entertainment. From that point on the usual conversation, laughter, and shenanigans continued into the night. I called it quits after I ran out of beer and decided to go to bed (well, went to the sleeping pad in the Dirty Little Box). We had made promises to our wives that we would be home bright and early Sunday AM, so being in bed before midnight seemed like a good idea.
My soul has been energized. Good ride, good people, good times, cheap beer.
